Christmas ads

You can be sure that is Christmas when you are not able to watch a movie on TV, a video on YouTube or to read a blog without being bombed by ads about Christmas. They can be funny, can put tears in your eyes, but sometime they can even be boring, banal or too much sugary. Sometimes they can even be weird: if you want to check this look here and here (those ads are strange, but funny, even if unintentionally).
Whatever you think, these ads are an annual event that you cannot elude, so let's see how the companies have wished you a Merry Christmas for 2013.

  • A family reunion
Apple always makes very good ads and even this year it has not disappointed us. This spot is very simple and the main themes are nostalgia, sense of family and the relation teenagers-mobile. A family heads to grandparents' house for the holidays and while the children are making angels snows, mum and dad are kissing and the whole family is preparing biscuits and preparing the Christmas tree we will see the teenager boy buried in his iPhone the whole time. You may think that he's just bored about the time passed with the family, but he's just preparing the best present ever.

  • Jingle Bells
Playing "Jingle Bells" is a serious affair at Kmart, as we can see from this spot (even if some people were pissed by it).

  • Santa is waiting for you at the airport
WestJet passengers were surprise by Santa. In Toronto airport a device with the form of a present invited people to scan their boarding pass and, after that, passengers were greeted by Santa himself. The beloved old man asked them what they wanted for Christmas, interacting with them, complimenting a granny, kidding with parents about shy children. Amused passengers asked for toys, tablet, a big TV, warm socks and other things and they later embarked, maybe thinking about the fanny experience they had just lived. But the big surprise was still waiting for them. Once landed, they found white and blue presents on the belt conveyor and not their cases. A little group of Santa helpers had gathered all the things they asked for, during the flight. It is hearth-warming to see the surprise and gratitude in the face of everyone and I can assure you that this is one of those video that will put tears in your eyes.

  • A trip to Wonderland
M&S will accompany us through fairy tales this year. A modern Alice (Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley) falls into a manhole, while trying to catch a white dog, and she finds herself in a glamorous and fairy world filled with other models (including David Gandy) and Helena Bonham Carter that, in a homage to the Wizard of Oz, will say the best lines. This Hollywood style is one of the most expansive for 2013 and gives M&S the possibility to display its shoes, lingerie, handbags and dresses, during Alice's adventures.

  • The bear and the hare
John Lewis has prepared a fantastic spot this years, spending £7 m as tree and this should be a joyful day, except for the bear that always misses Christmas because he is hibernating. This year the faithful friend hare will surprise the bear, giving a clock to the big friend to wake him up and celebrate Christmas altogether. This tear-catching story continue on the web site of John Lewis where you can download "The Bear who had never seen Christmas" interactive eBook, buy the soundtrack and create Christmas cards.

  • Not a Christmas fan?
Harvey Nichols usually doesn't prepare Christmas spots, but this year has decided to make the "Sorry I spent it on Myself" campaign. You are not going to feel the real Christmas spirit in this spot, because it has embrace the "why being generous in holidays" strategy, showing an unreal gift collection that you can actually buy on their web site and in stores. Do you need a Christmas lunch in a tin? This is the perfect place where you can find it.
